Steppingstone was commissioned by the current owner, wishing to create a discreet and unique private family house, perfectly aligned to contemporary living whilst situated in a stunning rural location.
It embraces the functional aspects of neomodern architecture and key attributes of modern technology to provide a flexible and comfortable living environment. A substantial section of the house lies beneath the original ground level, and the light, air quality and rural views are exceptional. The extensive, fully integrated technology includes keyless doors, some with fingerprint recognition, an audio visual system supporting various satellite feeds, Lutron lighting and natural climate control.
At ground level, the front door is discreetly positioned and opens into a hallway beside the staircase giving access to the property’s four floors. The main entertainment space is provided in a large open plan single room. Whilst it is substantial, it is cleverly divided by partitions into a series of “rooms”, each with their own particular style. They include relaxed and more formal sitting areas, a dining room, kitchen and a music area. The emphasis is on simplicity of form and function, and floor to ceiling windows fill the house with light whilst giving access to far reaching views.
A second staircase leads below ground to the leisure section, the focal point of which is a fully equipped sports bar with fridges, seating and multiple TV screens. The bar overlooks an open hall used for indoor games such as cricket, badminton and football. Parallel to the sports hall is a stunning indoor pool with a sauna/steam room, hot tub, changing rooms, and a gym.
The bedroom accommodation is split between a family area and guest bedrooms, which are on different floors. The family area is situated within the tower and is set over the first and second floors. The master bedroom, situated on the second floor, has an ensuite bathroom and excellent views, whilst the first floor accommodation comprises two further bedrooms with an en suite. The self contained apartment, on the lower ground floor, has independent access and opens onto a central below-ground courtyard. The apartment also contains a bedroom, dressing room and a kitchen area. There are two further bedrooms on the lower ground floor each with their own en suite bathrooms.
A part-glazed link provides additional garaging and a covered walkway to the main garage block and workshop. The studio/office are beyond and offer excellent versatile space.
The site is accessed via sliding electronic gates opening onto a block-paved driveway and forecourt. The house sits in around two acres of attractive grounds framed by mature hedges. There is a 3G-surfaced 5-aside football pitch, Zip Wire, al fresco dining area, hot tub and television. The top of the house can be used as a helicopter landing area if required.
