The property is Grade II* Listed being of architectural and historic importance with medieval origins. It is believed that the original Manor House on the site was destroyed during the peasant uprising of 1381. The Hall was rebuilt shortly after, and extended in the 15th Century by the Haseldens. Thomas Hayes refurbished the house in 1620 and from the 18th Century it was occupied as a farm house. The house was thoroughly refurbished again in 1990.
Finished in a soft sand coloured render under a clay tiled roof, the Hall stands prominently within the moated gardens. A heavy studded front door gives access to the reception hall. The drawing room is well proportioned, focused on a raised inglenook fireplace and glazed doors leading to a terrace and lawned gardens. The master bedroom is beautifully timbered including a vaulted ceiling with some very fine and rare medieval patterns over the lime whitewash.
Immediately adjoining the house are the charming lawned gardens and ornamental flower beds overlooked by the paved terrace. Lavender beds flank the path leading to the front door. The gardens are studded with a selection of mature trees and surrounded by a well maintained moat, regarded as one of the finest in the country. Beyond the moat, to the east, is a young deciduous wood interspersed with rides for ease of access, which shelters the all-weather tennis court.
Situated at the end of the driveway is the former stable block, beautifully converted to provide a charming self-contained two bedroom cottage.
Constructed in contemporary materials, the machinery shed provides ample storage for farm machinery. Within the same structure are two offices and the games room. Adjoining are some livestock pens.
