An impressive period house in the heart of an accessible village
Figheldean House is an impressive Grade II listed thatched property with a fascinating past. In the 1850s the house was significantly rebuilt and is steeped in history. In the early 20th Century it was purchased by the British Army and was used as a military hospital for Canadian soldiers to recover from shellshock in the First World War. The current owners have lovingly restored the house since they bought it in 2006, including rewiring, plumbing, re-plastering and the installation of oil fired underfloor heating throughout the ground floor. They have also reconfigured the rooms to create a house that suits modern day living.
The entrance hall on the ground floor extends the full length of the property with a fabulous galleried landing as a main feature of the hallway, which helps to create a light and airy atmosphere upon entering. The sitting room, dining room and drawing room are all westerly facing and feature, the original, but restored shutters. French oak floors extend throughout the whole of the ground floor.
To the right of the entrance hall the utility room and study lead through to the impressive kitchen/family room overlooking a south easterly facing courtyard. This really is the heart of the home and perfect for modern family living.
On the first floor is the dual aspect master bedroom with dressing room and ensuite bathroom. In addition, there is a further double bedroom with the potential to create an ensuite, subject to the necessary planning consent. There are six additional bedrooms and two family bathrooms.
Figheldean House is approached down a gravel drive arriving to a turning circle in front of the house with ample parking for several cars. Mature borders surround the boundary of the property with an established lawn leading up to an all-weather tennis court which was built in 2008.
A winding tree lined path leads down to the River Avon where it opens out to provide the opportunity for single bank fishing. Along the stretch of river, the current owners have added a summer house which has electricity, a fire pit and jetty to allow for entertaining down by the river.
The pretty courtyard off the kitchen has a number of outbuildings with a wood store and a double garage offering the opportunity to develop in to ancillary accommodation subject to the necessary planning permission.
