"To build a good car, a fast car, the best in class," are the words of Walter Owen Bentley, the founder.
These words were the guiding principles of Bentley's founder and are just as relevant today as they continue to guide our beliefs, actions and ambitions for the future.
The company was founded in 1919 in London, England. Since 1946 the company has been located in Crewe, England and been owned by Volkswagen AG since 1998.
Bentley is dedicated to making responsive and powerful Grand Tourer with the stamina to cross continents at pace, and drive in refined comfort and style.
There are many unmistakable characteristics that define a Bentley - handcrafted luxury,m distinctive design, breathtaking power and performance, a refined and exhilarating driving experience. Yet it is the combination of these characteristics that makes our brand so unique.
In 2003, Bentley sold around 600 cars in North America, compared to 4 years later in 2007 when they sold over 4,200, a 7-fold increase. Much of the sales success of Bentley can be attributed to the Continental Series, introduced in 2003, with the Continental GT coupe. The Continental series (including the GT, GTC and Flying Spur) has broadened the appeal if the Bentley brand to new audiences. While achieving superb sales results, the Continental Series continues to be more more exclusive than other brands, as seen with the introduction at the end of 2007 of the Continental GT Speed, possessing more than 600 horse power.
Today's Continental Series was designed for people who crave supercar performance, response and style, but need the flexibility of a car that seats four, carries luggage and can be used for everyday purposes. These cars retain the key elements that make every Bentley special, the true emotional aspects of the brand - hand craftsmanship, power, exclusivity and heritage.
